In December 2008 the establishment of the new Friends of Chattahoochee Bend State Park was announced. The Friends of Chattahoochee Bend State Park is the first Friends organization created for a Georgia State Park that doesn't yet exist.

The Chattahoochee Bend State Park is a future state park located in Coweta County along the Chattahoochee River and slated to open as early as summer 2010. The nearly 3,000 acre property includes approximately seven miles of river frontage, as well as the vast expanses of exposed granite known locally as Flat Rock. In between are hundreds of acres of forest punctuated with streams, rocky outcrops and granite boulders.

Coweta County and the Georgia Department of Natural Resources are currently working on access roads for the park so that preliminary work can begin. The DNR has undertaken a multi-stage selective logging program to slowly return the forest to a more natural state.

The Friends of Chattahoochee Bend State Park will work with the state and county during the development of the park. Friends members will be active volunteers and will be working to increase awareness of the park and all that it offers.

Initial projects by the Friends group will begin in late winter/early spring beginning with major cleanup efforts. Become a part of history by joining the Friends of Chattahoochee Bend State Park and helping to guide this great new park into the future.

We will keep you posted on updates regarding projects for the Chattahoochee Bend State Park as they become available.
